Digitization or engagement, which of one is more important?

The popular concept of digitalization in our world doesn’t cancel at all but sometimes even exacerbates the concept of people's involvement in business processes.

A lot could be digitized, robotized and even artificial intelligence can be applied, but all these processes are led by people, with feelings and emotions. And those emotions often do not strengthen the process.

According to PWC research 70% of business transformations fail.

That is why no matter how much automation and digitalization processes develop; people — agents of change will always remain an important aspect of these processes.

In situation of absence of agents, those who support the transformation is likely to fail.

Logically, of course, everyone understands that the digitalization of processes is not even a newfangled trend, but a must have of modern business, which allows to save costs and make your business more sustainable.

In addition to the obvious benefits for business, digitalization also affects employee engagement, because:

  • Digitalized business processes increase employees' efficiency. So, processing data for reporting for several days, an employee can do the same work in a few hours with automation, with a much lower probability of making mistakes;
  • Ability to work remotely can decrese probability of staff burnout, at least by reducing commuting;
  • Digitization helps to minimize physical contact where automation can be applied and agreed once on the process algorithm, without returning to the decision each time;
  • It is thanks to digitalization that it’s possible to enhance corporate processes and remove double standards, exceptions to the rules and other negative aspects that affect the speed of processes, efficiency and, most importantly, the involvement of personnel.

It’s important to realize that digitalization isn’t a panacea for everything that happens around us, the readiness of the client, both inside the process and outside, is the main criterion for launching the digitalization process. The product may be unique, but if there is no audience ready to use it, then the uniqueness of the product is blurred.
